What is an advisor?
Dr. Earl Reum
An Advisor to measure-up to all demands, must have the learning of a college
president, the consecration of a clergyman, the executive talents of a
financier, the humility of a deacon and the craftiness of a Tammany
politician. We must be an angel for temper, a demon for discipline, a
chameleon for adaptation, a diplomat for tact, an optimist for hope and hero
for courage. An Advisor must have the wisdom of a serpent, the
gentleness of a dove, the grace of God and the patience of Job. Only
the Apostle Paul could meet these requirements and since he is a disembodied
spirit, only eh could live on a teacher's salary.

Before schools closes plan a Summer
Safety Assembly for your fellow students. Organize committees to
present skits and give instruction on a variety of summer situation.
*On a Picnic... include ideas for healthy snacks
and rules for preparing food. Talk about
transporting an refrigerating food. Include tips to
keep food from spoiling and causing illness.
*At the Beach... show the right and wrong way to
play at the beach. Talk about sun
protection.
what are the dangers at the beach... the surf and
the sun? Try using puppets to give this
instruction.
*At Home... use a dollhouse and pretend problem
situations that students are called up on
to solve.
Consider pool safety rules and neighborhood
cautions while at play.
*On the Bus... on a bike... and in a car! Review
the safety rules for each. Seatbelts,
traffic rules,
dangers of noise and behavioral distractions.
Recruit your school artists to create pictures that
illustrate the points you want to make. Duplicate & leave with younger
students to color. Artists can also make illustrative posters and
clever backdrops for your skits.
