Think About Mary..... |

And a few more… • If you are a teenager, stop and figure out five experiences Mary must have had with Jesus while he was growing up. Since Jesus was 30 when he started his public ministry, Joseph must have been with the two of them quite a few of those early years. Imaginatively pick a moment when Mary and Joseph must have had a talk about their responsibility … perhaps wondering why they were chosen, perhaps discussing their confidence in God to take care of them. • Imagine when Joseph died, the conversation between Mary and Jesus, the emptiness of home life, the planning and spelling out of Joseph’s tasks between the two of them … quiet moments when discussions of Joseph’s goodness came out in conversation. • Pick five moments that you can imagine, and say a decade of the Rosary in honor of those five moments in Mary and Jesus’ life together. There are no rules that say a Rosary MUST be prayed one set way! And when October comes, which is the actual month dedicated to the Rosary, you can do it all over again! Mary might be waiting for your creativity again! And when she goes to her son Jesus with your request how can he refuse her. And, how can God the Father refuse such a person whom he placed in his own plan? May Activities Right Attitudes Make Success Junior High Students at Sacred Heart School in Hollister, CA recently held an Anti-Bulling day to promote tolerance, respect, and responsibility. Consider starting a Right Attitudes Make Success (RAMS) program at your school. You could also play games, watch movies, and brainstorm ways to make your school a better place. Canned Food Sculpture Contest A New Twist…Student Councils may decide to stimulate interest by participating in a local canned food sculpture contest. If your area doesn't have an actual contest near-by, you could hold your own! Select a shape to create and then build the sculpture at school with the food and funds provided by the student body. Some ideas for the shapes could be a mill, a space shuttle, a tank, a roller coaster, a helicopter, a fire truck, or a police car. Students Teaching Teachers This idea comes from the student council members at Notre Dame HS in St. Louis, MO. The officers took on the role of mentor during a series of computer workshops for their teachers. Members sent out an invitation that offered four one-hour after school programs: Basic computer use: Sending an attachment using rich text format; cut and copying graphics; properly using a search engine. PowerPoint presentations: Creating a PowerPoint presentation including music and graphics; designing backgrounds. Web page design: Creating a Web page using Geocities; how to include links, graphics, and background designs. Microsoft Publisher: Creating brochures, fliers, invitations, labels, postcards, and newsletters. One or two students taught each course, with six to eight other student helpers in the room. "Many teachers still cannot send e-mail, attachments, or even turn on the computer, while some teachers are advanced and want to learn video, PowerPoint, and inserting music and sound into projects" says Ann Bolzenius, student council adviser. "Kids love showing off their computer knowledge and teachers appreciate the opportunity to learn a new skill or program." Bolzenius reports that many teachers and students have formed an informal tutoring relationship for the year. "When a teacher is stuck, she finds her computer student tutor," she says. Board Game Drive Shelters need more than just food. Hold a Board Game Drive to collect board games for a local children's shelter. You could sponsor a class competition to see which class could bring in the most games. The winning class could receive a pizza party. Memorial Day Rosary You can celebrate Mary and Memorial Day at the same time by looking up the names of the soldiers killed overseas and pray for them and their families before you start each mystery.
