    HANGING AROUND.....

Caring, Citizenship, Respect, Honest, Responsibility, Fairness, Courage, Decisiveness, Dependability, Endurance, Enthusiasm, Initiative, Integrity, Judgment, Loyalty, Self-discipline, Tact, Tolerance

These traits make up the character of a true leader.  Student leaders can lead in positive ways by setting an example of good character and by actively seeking to influence others in positive directions.  The above traits are just a few that you can use to explore leadership with your student council members.  Take each trait and make it a monthly topic of discussion with the council members.  Have them construct a mural or wall hanging in their student council chambers, or around the school.  By the end of the year the student council will have created several pieces of art and learned about what traits it takes to be an effective leader.

For an in-depth definition of each of the traits listed above, please see our Members Only site.  Not a member?  Join today! Click here for membership information:

Here are some ideas you can do with your student council as a way to build team unity!  Consider having your own Halloween Party!

HELPING HANDS

This fun idea comes from our friend Martha Stewart.  Visit her website: www.marthastewart.com for more Halloween Ideas.

Filled with delicious      popcorn & sweet candy corn, clear plastic food-preparation gloves are transformed into satisfying snacks for Halloween visitors—especially those who dine on flesh. To make a popcorn-hand treat bag, drop a piece of candy corn into each of the glove’s fingertips, fill the glove with popcorn (you can enhance the flavor by adding savory seasonings), and tie the ends with twine. Add an extra touch of horror by serving the bags with severed-finger cookies, for a meal worthy of any ghoul or goblin.

We at TACSC, have a twist on this idea.  Instead of popcorn, you can fill rubber gloves with candy.  You, then, can "hand" these out to individuals who help with your events as a thank you, and call them: "Helping Hands." You could give these gifts out for any activities your student council sponsors.

Here is just one recipe, but check out www.comeandeat.com for many more snack ideas!

Haunted Hallways

October's Quote

This fun event combines service and spirit for your school.  Contact your local Family Shelters and invite the children of those shelters to attend a Halloween Fun-Nite at your school the week of Halloween.  These children may not have the opportunity to go trick-or-treating, so open your school as Trick-Or-Treating Central!  Have each class decorate their classrooms and doors.  As the children come to the door allow them to peek inside and of course collect their CANDY!!  Get creative in your decorating.  Go crazy in your hallways, bathrooms, and library!  Encourage parents and families to get involved in this spooky spirit filled activity.
Haunted Hallways is sure to raise SPIRITS!! BOO!
