Summer Leadership Conferences
|
TACSC sponsors two 5-day Summer Leadership Conferences each year. One in southern California, and one in Pennsylvania. These conferences are open to student leaders who will be in seventh or eighth grade next September. They do not have to be an elected student council officer. However, they must have leadership qualities along with a real desire to attend the conference.
These conferences stress the importance of developing a positive
attitude, believing in your own abilities as well as in those of others, learning
to listen and communicate more effectively, accepting challenges, being responsible,
setting goals, organizing for success, building community, learning from your
successes and your failures, and CARING.
The experiential approach is used as well as the instructional.
Many of the staff members modeling these values and providing instruction
are students not much older than the delegates. Thus, peer counseling and
tutoring are also in use... a very effective method. Delegates to the conference
frequently go away with a great deal more self-confidence. They have set some
goals, and they have picked up a few tools which will help them make their
dreams a reality.
