TACSC Tomorrow... Now is the Opportunity
|
There are many opportunities to participate in TACSC.
We sponsor Student Government Days in Southern California and on the East Coast
every Fall. Ambassador Program is in full-swing in each region - already
giving workshops for several member schools. Summer Conferences in each of
our three areas occur each year. TACSC also sponsors election workshops and moderator
workshops. Please See Programs & Services for more
details.
There is always a need for volunteers to help out at the TACSC office.
Mailings need to be prepared, materials for workshops and conferences need to be organized, and other administrative duties fulfilled.
Because TACSC is a non-profit corporation, we rely 100% on private and corporate donations and grants. We have survived on a very small budget since 1982, but if TACSC is to grow and expand the way we have planned, we need to extend our efforts and increase our funds. Though schools pay a membership fee, and pay for students to participate at our events, this amount will not support TACSC's goals for proliferation and growth. Donations can be on a one-time or annual basis. We are looking for donors to:
- Underwrite an existing event/program
- Donate to the Endowment Fund
(to pay for general operating expenses equipment, etc.)
- Sponsor specific materials for events (binders, t-shirts, pens, buttons, etc.)
- Support a summer intern at the TACSC office
- Develop new programs
- Pay salaries for additional TACSC employees
- Sponsor delegates at the summer conferences/ Student Government Days
TACSC has plans, given the necessary financial and personnel resources, to...
- Establish an endowment fund that will help offset the costs of our programs
and the administration of the organization
- Maintain a full-time Executive Director
- Maintain a full-time Associate Director
- Hire a Director of Development
- Hire a full-time secretary/bookkeeper for the TACSC Business Office
- Provide at least one full-time summer job for a high school or college
student (from our student volunteers)
- Renew its current programs
- Create new programs
- Expand the geographic areas within which we offer workshops and conferences
to include the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri and Ohio
- Make a concerted effort to bring our programs to inner city schools, where
we believe involvement in student government can help students increase their
ability to see themselves as person who "can" and "will" be
successful. We believe that, w were we to share our vision and our expectations
with these students, fewer of them would become " victims' of their
environment. Rather they would be challenged by their environment to be part of
a long-range plan to improve themselves and their communities
- Develop publications and video tapes that could be marketed to schools &
bring in additional revenue for TACSC
- Establish a President/Student Advisory Board
TACSC is committed to create new programs that will do the following:
Provide students with a forum for straight talk about
- Their concerns
- Their problems
- Peer pressure
- Teenage suicide
- Substance abuse
- Injustices
- Commitment
- Self-esteem
- Self awareness
- Responsible sex/Teenage pregnancy
Help students explore
- Positive alternatives
- Goals, and the means to attain them
- Solutions
- Techniques for maintaining one's personal integrity
Give students an opportunity
- To share and renew their faith
- Develop their spiritual life
- Expand their awareness
